The AutoCheck report
AutoCheck is Experian’s vehicle history report. It covers much of the same ground as CARFAX and adds a score that compares the car with similar ones.

What’s in an AutoCheck report
- The AutoCheck score: a number for this car against the range for similar vehicles of the same year and class.
- Title brands such as salvage, flood, junk and lemon buyback.
- Auction records and announcements, such as frame damage reported at sale.
- Odometer readings and checks for rollback or an odometer brand.
- Number of owners, registration events and how the car was used (personal, fleet, rental).
Like every history report, it lists what was reported. An inspection is still the only way to see how the car is now.
When AutoCheck is worth getting
- The car went through dealer auctions, where AutoCheck’s records are a strong point.
- You want a second source next to CARFAX before a big purchase: each report can hold records the other doesn’t.
- You’re comparing several similar cars and the score helps you shortlist.
An AutoCheck report costs $7.99 here, against $29.99 for a single report on autocheck.com.
Reading the score
The score is a comparison, not a grade of the car’s condition. A car within or above the range for its class has a history like most similar cars; below the range usually means something stands out, such as a brand, many owners or heavy use. Read the details behind it rather than the number alone.
Questions
Is AutoCheck better than CARFAX?
Neither is better for every car. They draw on different records, so for an expensive or auction-sourced car many buyers read both. See CARFAX vs AutoCheck.
Does AutoCheck show accidents?
It shows accidents and damage that were reported to its sources, including some auction damage announcements. Unreported damage won’t appear.
Who makes AutoCheck?
Experian. Smart VIN Check is an independent reseller and isn’t affiliated with Experian.
