Smart VIN Check

Is Smart VIN Check legit?

It’s the right question to ask before you pay any website for a vehicle report. Here is what we are, what we aren’t, and how to check us the way you’d check anyone else.

Updated October 2026

What we are

Smart VIN Check is an independent reseller of vehicle history reports. We sell CARFAX reports, AutoCheck reports and Copart/IAAI auction records for a VIN. We are not CARFAX, Inc., and we are not Experian, the company behind AutoCheck. We aren’t affiliated with Copart or IAA either, and none of them endorses us. Their names appear on our site only to tell you which report you’re buying.

We buy each report from a licensed data supplier at a wholesale rate and pass it on to you as the supplier delivers it. We don’t edit what’s in the report.

How delivery works

  1. Enter the VIN. We decode it for free first, so you can see the year, make and model and confirm it’s the right car before you pay.
  2. Choose your reports and pay. You don’t need an account: the email you give at checkout becomes your account once the payment is confirmed.
  3. We order the reports as soon as the payment is confirmed. Most arrive within a few minutes, in your account and by email, with the PDF attached when there is one.

A crypto payment counts as confirmed when the network confirms it, which can take longer than a card.

How you pay

  • By card, on a hosted checkout page at pay.smartvincheck.com, run by our card payment provider. Your card number is never typed on our own pages.
  • In crypto, through NOWPayments. You pay from your own wallet to the address it shows you.

Refunds, exactly as our policy states them

  • A report that can’t be produced. Its cost goes back to your account automatically: the report credit you used, or the exact amount taken from your balance. We email you when this happens. If you’d rather have the money back on your card or crypto wallet, ask within 30 days.
  • Credits and balance. They never expire. Unused credits and unused balance can be refunded within 30 days of the purchase that added them.
  • Delivered reports. These aren’t refundable, because we pay our supplier for every report we deliver. The exception: a report that doesn’t match the VIN you entered, or a file that’s empty or won’t open. Then we replace or refund it.

The full wording is in our refund policy and terms.

Letters and numbers, no I, O or Q. It’s on the dashboard by the windshield, on the driver’s door frame, and on the title.

What no report can do

A history report lists what was reported to the company that produces it. A repair paid in cash at a shop that doesn’t report, or damage that never went through insurance, won’t be there. That is true of every seller’s reports, ours included. The FTC’s used-car advice makes the same point: a history report doesn’t replace an independent inspection. Use the report to decide whether a car is worth inspecting, then have it inspected.

How to check any VIN report seller

Run these checks on us too. A seller that fails more than one of them is a seller to skip.

  1. It says who it is. A reseller should say plainly that it’s independent, not dress up as CARFAX or AutoCheck. Look for a notice in the footer saying it isn’t affiliated with them.
  2. You see the price first. The total for each report should be on screen before you enter any payment details, with no free trial that turns into a monthly charge.
  3. Card details go to a payment processor. The card form should be on a secure (https) checkout page. Be wary of any request to pay by gift card, wire or bank transfer to a person.
  4. The refund rules are written down. A real policy says what happens when a report can’t be produced and what happens after delivery.
  5. A person answers. There should be an email address that gets replies, not only a form.
  6. No full report for free. Free checks exist (see free VIN check), but a full CARFAX or AutoCheck history isn’t one of them. A site that promises one for nothing usually wants your email or your card.
  7. Claims you can check. Be wary of star ratings with no source, counters of happy customers and talk of a partnership with CARFAX.
  8. The report matches the car. When it arrives, check that its VIN matches the dashboard, the driver’s door frame and the title, and look at the date it was run.

The FTC also suggests searching a seller’s name together with words like “complaint” or “scam”, and checking with your state or local consumer protection office. It writes that about car dealers, and it works just as well for report sellers.

How to reach us

Write to contact@smartvincheck.com with the VIN or the email you used at checkout. We usually reply within a few hours. You can also use the contact page.

Our privacy policy explains what we keep and who we share it with. Our report supplier receives the VIN, not your identity.

Questions

Is Smart VIN Check part of CARFAX?

No. We’re an independent reseller. CARFAX, Inc. doesn’t own, run or endorse us. We buy CARFAX reports through a licensed data supplier and resell them.

Are the reports real?

Yes. They’re produced by the companies whose names they carry, reach us through a licensed data supplier, and are delivered to you unchanged. Our sample reports show what you receive.

Do I have to create an account?

No. The email you give at checkout becomes your account once the payment is confirmed, and we email you a link to it.

What if my VIN has no report?

You don’t lose the money. The cost goes back to your account automatically, and if you ask within 30 days we refund it to your card or wallet.
